Frequently asked questions about - SPF & After-Sun Care

How often do I need to reapply sun cream?

To maintain protection, you should reapply sun cream approximately every two hours. It is essential to reapply sun cream after swimming, sweating or drying yourself off. Please bear in mind that invisible UV rays are present even on cloudy days and can damage your skin.

What is the difference between SPF 30 and SPF 50?

SPF 30 already filters out around 97% of UVB radiation, whilst SPF 50 blocks around 98% – so the difference is smaller than is often assumed. For everyday use, SPF 30 can be a good choice that is gentle on the skin. However, for very sensitive skin or in intense sunlight, a higher SPF can still offer valuable protection.

Can I apply after-sun cream to my face every day?

Generally speaking, yes, as both the After Sun Butter and Concentrate L are gentle on the skin and formulated to be physiologically compatible. Thanks to its light texture, Concentrate L in particular can be incorporated into your daily skincare routine as a moisturising serum all year round, providing simple, everyday care for your skin.

What does SPF stand for – and how does the sun protection factor protect the skin?

The abbreviation SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor and indicates how much longer you could theoretically stay in the sun without getting sunburnt. A distinction is made between different wavelengths of light: whilst UVB rays are primarily responsible for the visible reddening of the skin, UVA rays penetrate deeper into the skin’s layers and can cause premature skin ageing in the long term. The sun protection factor (SPF) primarily refers to protection against UVB radiation. A high SPF can therefore help to extend the skin’s natural protection time. However, for comprehensive skincare, it is important to be aware that no filter can guarantee complete blocking of these rays. A carefully chosen sunscreen is therefore more like a companion that takes the strain off your skin’s natural defences and can thus help ensure you enjoy your time outdoors without a care in the world.

SPF 30 – when is this level of protection sufficient?

SPF 30 offers a very balanced choice for many everyday situations. For a normal day, short breaks in the shade or the journey to work, this sun protection factor can provide perfectly adequate basic protection. It already filters out a large proportion of incoming UVB rays and can help to preserve the skin’s barrier without putting a strain on it with extremely high concentrations of filters. One example from our range is Sun Protect 30, which was developed specifically to achieve this balance. It’s important to remember that the level of protection always depends on your skin type; in intense midday sun, a higher SPF may be the more suitable option in some circumstances.

After-sun – what your skin really needs after UV exposure

Even with good UV protection, sun exposure always puts stress on the skin. Heat and light often lead to a noticeable loss of moisture, which is why the skin may feel tight or slightly irritated in the evening. A conventional body lotion is sometimes not rich enough at this point. A specialised after-sun treatment, on the other hand, is designed to intensely moisturise the skin, provide a cooling effect and support the skin’s night-time regeneration process. Our collection offers two products to help with this: the After Sun Butter intensively nourishes the skin and keeps it supple, whilst the Liposonal Concentrate L 3x4ml serum provides deep-acting hydration.

A tip for your skincare routine: After sunbathing, your skin will really appreciate a gentle cleanse before you apply a nourishing after-sun treatment.
